Your estate is sitting
on untapped energy

Mountford Energy identifies opportunities to bring privately funded solar, battery storage and EV charging infrastructure to hospitals, schools and other large estates — at no cost to you. We handle the assessment, the partners and the process.

2027
NHS fleet electrification deadline. Getting EV infrastructure in place now avoids a last-minute scramble.

Typical agreement term. Locked-in below-market electricity rates for decades, with no maintenance burden on your team.

Privately funded.
Zero risk to you.

Most large estates already have everything needed to generate their own energy — the roof space, the car parks, the grid connection. Mountford's job is to see what others have missed, bring the right development partners to the table, and make it happen without costing your organisation a penny. You contribute the estate. We bring everything else.

Who we work with

Built for organisations with large estates
and real energy challenges

If you manage a significant estate, you're likely facing rising energy costs, net zero commitments and incoming EV requirements — often without the capital to address them quickly.

NHS trusts and hospitals

Hospitals run around the clock and consume enormous amounts of energy. With mandatory fleet electrification approaching and net zero targets set, the pressure to act is real. We help trusts identify what's possible on their estate before committing to anything.

NHS & healthcare

Independent and private schools

Large grounds, significant electricity demand and sustainability expectations from parents and governors. We help schools access energy infrastructure that reduces bills and strengthens net zero credentials — without capital outlay.

Schools & academy trusts

Rail and transport operators

Station car parks represent some of the most promising energy infrastructure sites in the country — large footprints, existing grid connections and high daytime demand. We work with operators to explore what's viable on their estate.

What this means for you

Real benefits. No upfront cost.

Every project we bring forward is privately funded. Your organisation contributes the estate — we bring the assessment, the developer and the capital.

No capital investment

Infrastructure is funded, built and managed by our development partners. You don't spend a pound to get started.

Lower energy bills

Electricity generated on your site is sold to you below market rate, cutting costs for years to come.

Revenue share

Depending on the project, your organisation can receive a share of revenues generated from the infrastructure.

Net zero progress

On-site renewable generation and EV charging makes a meaningful, measurable contribution to your sustainability commitments.

EV charging ready

With NHS fleet electrification mandated from 2027, getting charging infrastructure in place now avoids a last-minute scramble.

No obligation to proceed

The initial feasibility assessment costs nothing and commits you to nothing. You decide whether to take it further.

How it works

A straightforward process,
at your pace

We know that decisions like these take time and involve multiple stakeholders. Our process is low-friction and low-risk at every stage — you're never asked to commit before you're ready.

01
Initial conversation
A straightforward conversation about your estate — its size, your energy situation and any sustainability goals you're working toward. No jargon, no pressure. We want to understand whether there's an opportunity worth exploring.
30 minutes
02
Desktop feasibility
If the conversation looks promising, we carry out a desktop assessment of your site — roof and car park space, grid connection, planning context and energy demand. This costs you nothing and takes place entirely in the background.
2–3 weeks
03
We present what's possible
We come back with a clear picture of what infrastructure might be viable on your estate, what it could generate in savings and revenue, and what the process looks like from here. You ask questions. You take your time.

04
Development begins
If you want to proceed, we bring in our development and funding partners. They carry out the detailed technical and grid studies, handle planning, and manage the build. Your role is to say yes — and then benefit from the results.

Common questions

What organisations usually ask us

Does this really cost us nothing?

Yes. The infrastructure is funded entirely by our development partners. You provide access to your estate; they provide the capital, the build and the ongoing management. The electricity generated is sold to you at a discounted rate, which is how they generate their return over time.

What types of infrastructure are we talking about?

It depends on what your site can support. Solar panels — on rooftops or over car parks — are the most common starting point. Battery storage, EV charging and combined systems are increasingly part of the picture too. We identify what makes sense for your specific estate and energy profile.

Will this cause disruption to our operations?

Any construction will involve some disruption, and we're upfront about that. Our development partners are experienced in working on live sites — schools, hospitals and transport hubs — and plan the work around your operational needs. The feasibility stage will give you a clear picture before you commit to anything.

We've already done some solar — is it still worth talking?

Often yes. Many organisations have installed rooftop solar but haven't looked at car park canopies, battery storage or EV charging — which can add significant value on top of what's already there. It's worth a conversation to see what else might be possible.

Who owns the infrastructure once it's built?

Typically the development partner owns and maintains the infrastructure for the duration of the agreement — usually 20 to 25 years — and you purchase the electricity at an agreed rate. Ownership arrangements can vary by project and will be set out clearly before you commit to anything.

Do we need to go through a procurement process?

This varies by organisation type. We're familiar with the procurement requirements for NHS trusts, academy trusts and other public sector bodies, and our development partners have navigated these processes many times. We'll advise on what's needed for your specific situation early in the process.

How long does the whole process take?

From first conversation to completed installation, most projects take between 12 and 24 months. The early stages typically take two to four months. Grid studies and planning can take six to twelve months depending on the site. We'll give you a realistic timeline from the outset.

What's in it for Mountford?

We're paid by our development partners when a project completes — not by you. Our incentive is to bring forward projects that genuinely work for all parties, which means we'll only recommend proceeding when we believe the opportunity is real and the terms are fair.

Find out what your estate could support

A 30-minute conversation is all it takes to understand whether there's an opportunity worth exploring. No commitment, no obligation — just a straight conversation about your estate and what might be possible.
